This interactive and informative session will explore the history of mentoring in the workplace, explain contemporary theory and practices, and increase participant productivity, career and personal goal setting, and understanding of how to maximize the mentor/mentee relationship.

Presenter: Dr. Manuel Dudley

Brief Bio: Dr. Manuel Dudley is the Dean of the Greensboro Campus at Guilford Technical Community College. He is responsible for facilities, student conduct, general campus operations/management, and serves as the liaison and designee on various college committees and special initiatives throughout the Greensboro community. Dr. Dudley has worked at GTCC since 2010 and in the North Carolina Community College System for 20 years. He received a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies with a minor in Psychology, a M.S. in Counseling and Educational Development, and Ed. S. in Gerontology from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He began his community college career as a recruiter and Human Resources Development trainer at Wayne Community College, held a subsequent position as the Department Chair of Human Services Technology, and was hired in 2003 by Mitchell Community College as the Dean of Math, Natural and Social Sciences, Public Services and Cooperative Education.

His work with the North Carolina Community College Minority Male Mentoring Initiative received statewide recognition in 2008 and currently volunteers on boards for The Greensboro Housing Authority, the UNC-Greensboro School of Counseling and Educational Development, Family Service of the Piedmont, and the State Employees Credit Union-Muirs Chapel Branch.

Dr. Dudley received his doctoral degree in Leadership Studies from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and dissertation topic was “Mentoring as a Professional Development Tool in Preparing the Next Generation Leaders in the North Carolina Community College System”.
